Gruesome murders under the cover of Suicides in Sri Lanka.

Subsequent to the genocide in the Sri Lanka, especially in the habitats of the Tamils, incidents of suicide are on the rise at an alarming rate. This article analyses the background and potential reasons of such suicides.

In connivance of several countries and in gross violation of the Geneva conventions the Sri Lankan government had committed a genocide.  It used all disastrous and  weapons and committed all sorts of war crimes and human rights violation.  Despite all these,  it walks in the international arena with head held high.

So far, there has been neither focused attention nor a loud protest from the world countries against this genocide, which was cleverly misinterpreted as humanitarian war. None of the countries came forward to warn the Sri Lankan government to rehabilitate the Tamils who were crushed and deprived of their belongings, rights and relatives. The innocent Tamils have lost their roots in their homeland and struggling life or death, but who cares?

In a place where there is no music, but only a widespread silence, thoughts of these people is also remains empty. Nobody is willing to restore the minds of these people who have lost everything and to bring them back to normalcy.  The Sri Lankan government would never bring hopes to these people who are psychologically beaten black and blue. The international community did not reprimand the Sri Lankan government to allow the international agencies to help these desperate people improve their inner strength and offer them a secured future.

Why psychological strength is necessary?
The people are subjected to all sorts of pains and atrocities, and have lost all their valuables and kith & kin. They are cursing their life and existence.  Children are panicking at everything and screaming during nights. The terror of war is still haunting them. These are the people who fought till the end for the uprise of a race. These are the people who underwent all sorts of pains and wounds of the war.  That pains and wounds, and the incidents of narrow escape from death still haunts them.

With thoughts wavering /oscillating between past and the present, there remains a danger that at any moment, their thoughts take diversion towards a undesirable destination.  It is a dangerous circumstance, where hopes for living and hatred for ending up life can be easily inculcated even to the children. It is need of the hour, that they are provided psychological strength & support.

In these psychological backgrounds, the Sri lankan government, is creating hatred on life and inducing the youngsters to commit suicide.  Even after so many incidents of suicide, why the Sri Lankan government did not investigate the reasons or background of such suicides and solutions to stop them? Medical reports confirm suicide as cause of deaths in more than 30 incidents within few months. But, why there is no action initiated by the government? No other government would neglect or remain silent spectator, if such incidents took place in a particular region or among a particular race of its country. But, the reasons of Sri Lankan government’s disinterest on this subject. is not beyond anybody’s guess.

Nurse Darshika’s death was the first incident that took place immediately at the end of the genocide and subsequent opening of the A9 highway. Immediately after recovery of her body found to be hanging, the Yazh Police and Army declared instantly that it was a suicide case.  However, due to severe protest by her relatives and friends, who realised foulplay and raised their voice against the government, the later was compelled to release the true version of the post-mortem report, that exposed the incident to be a gruesome murder.  This gave authenticity to the doubts prevailed that Darshika would have been raped before being murdered.  Subsequently, a Sinhalese Medical Practitioner was arrested and produced before the court.  But, the Sri Lankan Army and the government intervened in the matter and on the pretext of transferring him to Anuradhapuram Prison, released him on bail.

Nurse  Darshika’s case is not alone. Today, there are regular news report announcing suicides of young school teachers.  But, the post-mortem reports or the reasons behind such suicides are not published.  It is feared that these can be cases of murder or that they are forced to commit suicide. The act of encouraging or forcing a person to commit suicide is also considered to be a crime of murder. Each and every bodiy of the women in the so-called suicide cases, had brutal marks and bruises. However, there are neither any investigations, nor any investigation reports submitted.  The judiciary cannot wash off its hands in this matter, simply branding them as a case of suicide. It is the bounden duty to expose the reasons for the consequent suicides to the public.

Such incidents of murdering the Tamil youth and hanging the bodies to picturise them as suicide, and in case of real suicides, suppressing the facts also not less than a genocidal act.  This is a psychological kind of genocidal act. The Tamil people should be aware and be alert about such happenings.

It has become impossible to get justice from the judiciary whose hands are tied up by the government terrorism. The situation is such that our Tamil people who are subjected to sexual crimes could not approach the courts for justice.  Even though, the victims identify the sex criminals in the court, the latter goes scot free with the influence of the Sri lankan army or political power.  Then what? The victims are threatened either to withdraw the case or remain unconcerned with it. In the extreme, the victims commit suicide. Such incidents are regulary taking place among the rehabilitated people but does not come to the knowledge of the medias. These people are scared to talk about such atrocities to the media or other agencies.

These people needs psychological support and strength. Such atrocities are to be complained with the International human rights organisations and psychological institutions.  And pressure should be mounted on the international community to keep vigil and restrain the Sri Lankan government’s excesses and to improve the psychological strength of the Tamils. Tamil immigrants should act fast in this regard also.
